Changes since 1.52
Version 1.53.3
New features, improvements and bug fixes for the phone and watch apps, covering the updates from 1.52 to 1.53.3.
Includes Workout Focus, themes, library updates, body metrics, progression changes and watch improvements.
New & improved
Workout Focus
- Workout Focus blocks distracting apps during your workout. Keep them blocked for the whole session or allow them during rest periods.
- Set it up under Profile → Training → Workout Focus on iPhone or Android. On iPhone, you can also block app categories and websites.
- Blocking ends when you finish or discard your workout. You can turn it off at any time, and it stays off when you edit a previously saved workout.
Appearance
- Choose from Stealth, Pulse and Rose themes alongside Light and Original. Pick separate themes for your phone’s light and dark modes, or customise the accent colour in the Light theme.
- Choose a Black, Pink or Midnight app icon, or keep the default. Android also gets animated navigation icons.
- Personalise gym profiles with your own photo, the gym’s logo or an initial. Android users can switch gym profiles directly from the Home header.
Library and splits
- The rebuilt library brings exercises, splits and saved workouts into one searchable place. Filter by muscle, equipment, favourites and more, and see when you last trained an exercise.
- Creator and custom split pages now show clearer workout previews, descriptions, completion progress, optional days and weekly muscle volume. Filter creator splits by days per week to find a schedule that fits.
- When a creator split differs from your weekly goal, Gravl helps you align the two. Custom splits also let you know when your selected workout duration may be too short.
- Changes to a saved workout template come with a summary before you confirm the update. Imported plans keep their source information, creator imagery and prescribed rep ranges.
- Removing equipment from a gym profile updates affected exercises in upcoming workouts.
Workout logging and progression
- The effort-rating prompt highlights the set you’re rating before you move to the next exercise. A new interactive guide explains how your ratings affect future recommendations.
- Progression in creator splits makes better use of your previous performance. When the next available weight is too big a jump, Gravl can build your reps at the current weight to help you keep progressing.
- Exercise actions, replacement options and set inputs are easier to use. Reps appear before weight consistently, and distance-based exercises have clearer interval layouts.
- The Next button follows your superset order. Logging a set automatically resumes a paused workout, and warm-up and dropset options appear only when they can be used.
Progress and body metrics
- The new Body metrics dashboard brings weight, measurements and progress photos together. Choose which measurements to show, explore their histories and compare changes over time.
- Completed workouts, the Save Workout screen and friends’ workout cards have a refreshed layout with clearer statistics. Connected services appear together under a Synced label, and workout durations retain precision down to the second.
- Weekly Set Trends show every muscle in a readable row, with volume ranges and a breakdown of direct and indirect work. Indirect sets receive half credit; warm-ups and cardio are excluded.
- Trend colours match your workout-summary stats, and heart-rate charts give a more balanced view of small fluctuations.
- Monthly recap reminders are available for months with at least five workouts.
Watch apps
- Apple Watch: log and edit from either your phone or watch, with more consistent exercise navigation, rest timers and next-set previews. Refreshed screens make workout controls and metrics easier to read.
- Wear OS: track workouts started on your phone, including heart rate, calories, sets and rest. Your watch follows the same exercise as your phone and moves on after the final set.
- Wear OS now uses your app theme and shows a richer workout summary with a heart-rate chart, volume, calories and personal records.
- Garmin: improved workout syncing while an Android phone is locked, and better recovery if a connection drops near the end of a workout. Companion-app updates also expanded support for models including Enduro and fēnix 9 Pro variants.
- Update your companion watch app alongside Gravl. The updated Apple Watch experience requires watch app version 1.53.0 or later; Gravl prompts you when an update is needed.
Connected workouts and Android Live Updates
- Android’s ongoing workout notification shows exercise and rest information, with controls to pause, resume or skip rest without reopening Gravl.
- Imported activities have clearer names and distinct calendar colours. Rides show speed, and distance and pace displays are more consistent with your preferred units.
- Improved heart-rate availability in completed workouts, including sessions where readings were not directly linked to the workout in Apple Health.
- Imported health workouts remain read-only. Their options now reflect the actions available, including removing the unsupported Strava-sync action.
Settings and support
- Profile settings are organised into searchable categories, with dedicated Connected Apps and Notifications entries.
- Support is easier to find, with clearer conversation status and availability when a chat is handed over. Known-issue notifications can show when an issue has been resolved.
- Reps Progression is now called Rep style. Reset all recommended weights has been removed; percentage adjustments and individual exercise one-rep-max edits remain available.
- Theme presets replace the free-form colour picker. Account deletion now asks you to enter your workout count to help prevent accidental deletion.
Bug fixes
- Workout saving. Improved recovery from interrupted saves. Temporary connection problems are retried automatically, switching away from the app is less likely to interrupt saving, and persistent problems show clearer next steps.
- Workout plans. Fixed duplicate upcoming workouts, split order changing unexpectedly after settings updates, and cancelled workouts retaining logged sets.
- Recommendations. Corrected cases where creator-split recommendations repeated without progressing, manual one-rep-max changes were not reflected properly, or weighted-bodyweight recommendations did not match recorded performance.
- Sets and supersets. Fixed duplicate superset sets, dropsets using outdated values, and exercise replacements not appearing correctly.
- Watch syncing. Fixed out-of-date next-set previews, inconsistent pause/resume behaviour, lost edits and duplicate Wear OS summaries. Improved recovery after watch disconnections.
- Health and imports. Reduced duplicate imports of workouts already tracked in Gravl. Improved Apple Health syncing while the phone is locked, Health Connect reliability, and imported distance and pace formatting.
- Dates and measurements. Fixed date shifts around time zones and daylight saving, and body weight not refreshing correctly from measurement history.
- Appearance and navigation. Fixed partially applied themes, hard-to-read controls, keyboards covering equipment inputs and overlapping screens. Improved exercise imagery, text sizing and translations.
- App reliability. Reduced crashes and loading interruptions, improved startup after time away, and made subscription screens more resilient to connection problems.
