Gravl on Your Watch: Apple Watch, Wear OS and Garmin

Log sets, run rest timers and check what's next straight from your wrist - your phone can stay in your bag! ⌚

Written by GoranUpdated

Tired of pulling out your phone between sets? Gravl runs on Apple Watch, Wear OS watches and Garmin watches, so you can control the whole workout from your wrist.

What you can do from your wrist

On all three platforms, the watch app lets you:

  • See your exercises and what's coming next (on Garmin you get the current set, plus what's up next while you rest).
  • Log sets and edit reps and weights on the fly.
  • Run the rest timer with a buzz when it's time to lift again.
  • Rate your exertion after exercises.
  • Handle supersets, dropsets and timed exercises.
  • Get a PR celebration right on your wrist when you set a new record, on Apple Watch and Wear OS. (On Garmin the PR pops up on your phone.)
  • Track your heart rate and calories during the session.

Everything syncs live with your phone, including pauses - so you can switch between wrist and phone whenever you like.

Apple Watch

Install Gravl on your watch through the Watch app on your iPhone. Once it's installed:

  • Workouts you start on your phone appear on the watch automatically.
  • You can also start today's workout straight from the watch (keep your phone nearby).
  • Want your watch to jump in every time? In Profile - Connected Apps, turn on Start workouts on Apple Watch. Your watch will track your heart rate automatically during workouts.

Wear OS

Install Gravl from Google Play on your watch and you're done - it pairs with the app automatically.

Bonus: add the Gravl tiles to your watch face carousel to glance at your Strength Score and your current week without opening the app.

Garmin

The Garmin setup takes a minute, and Gravl guides you through it:

  1. Go to Profile - Connected Apps - Garmin Watch.
  2. Turn on Enable Garmin Watch.
  3. Follow the checklist on that screen: install the Garmin Connect app, make sure your watch is connected (if you own several Garmin devices, pick the one to use with Gravl) and install Gravl on your watch.

The screen also tells you when a watch app update is available. Gravl supports a wide range of Garmin models - Fenix, Forerunner, Venu, Instinct, Enduro and more.

When you record a workout from your Garmin, the saved session shows a Recorded on Garmin card, and you can view the activity in Garmin Connect too. Heart rate comes straight from the watch.

Gravl Tip:

Rest timers on the watch buzz your wrist when time's up - way harder to miss than a phone notification from inside your gym bag.

Good to know

  • Starting a workout from the watch follows the same subscription rules as on your phone.
  • The watch needs your phone within reach to start a session - the heavy lifting (pun intended) still happens in the app.
