Groups: Train Together and Compete in Challenges

How to create or join a group, run challenges on volume, workouts or Strength Score, and manage members

Written by GoranUpdated

Groups let you train with your friends or your gym crew. Pick a challenge, train as usual, and every workout you log counts automatically. When the challenge ends, the podium earns badges.

You'll find them on the Feed tab: tap Groups at the top, next to Friends. Groups show your username so members can find you, so Gravl asks you to choose one first if you don't have one yet.

Create a group

  1. On the Feed tab, tap Groups, then Create a group (or tap + and choose New group).
  2. Add a Group name, and if you like, a photo and a Description.
  3. Choose Who can join:
    • Invite only: only admins add members. The invite link stays off.
    • Anyone with link: members join with your invite link or QR code. Turn on Approve requests if you want an admin to accept each new member first.
  4. Tap Done, then share the link, QR code or 6-character group code with your friends.

Join a group

  • Open the invite link or scan the QR code with your camera.
  • Or, on the Feed tab, tap Groups, then Join with a code, and type the code a member sent you.

If the group approves requests, tap Request to join and Gravl lets you know when an admin accepts you. If your gym has a group, you'll find it under Suggested. To join a gym group, that gym must be in one of your gym profiles.

You can be in up to 10 groups, and a group can have up to 999 members.

Inside a group

  • Leaderboard: the standings of the current challenge.
  • Feed: your members' workouts and group news, like new members and new challenges.
  • Members: everyone in the group. Admins also see Join requests here.

Challenges

Every group has a Monthly challenge on Strength Score and workouts. Admins can also start their own: open the group, tap … and choose Start a challenge.

  • Pick a challenge:
    • Volume: total weight lifted.
    • Workouts completed: number of workouts.
    • Strength score gained: how much each member's Strength Score went up since the challenge started.
  • Dates: a challenge runs from 1 day to a year. Workouts logged between the start and end dates count.
  • Repeat: a new round starts the day after the last one ends.
  • Count from join date: when on, new members only score from the day they join.

When the challenge ends, the top three earn Gold, Silver and Bronze badges. Finished challenges and their final standings stay in History.

Manage your group

Every group has one Owner. The owner can make other members Admin, and admins can invite people, start challenges and change the Group settings.

  • Remove a member: tap them in Members and choose Remove from group. They can't rejoin with the invite link until an admin taps Allow back in Removed members.
  • Reset the invite link: the old link, QR code and group code stop working. Members who already joined stay in the group.
  • Leave: tap … and choose Leave group. The owner must Transfer ownership to another member first, or delete the group.
  • Delete group: only the owner can do this. It removes the group for every member and can't be undone.

Gravl Tip:

Turn on Groups in your notification settings to hear about activity in your groups. Then nobody can sneak in an extra leg day without you knowing.
