Gravl Gym: Set up Profiles and Available Equipment

Set up your workout spaces and switch between them with ease!

Scritto da GoranAggiornato

From a basic home gym to a super-stacked fitness center (or maybe a mix of both?), Gravl makes it easy to create profiles that match your equipment. This means you'll always get perfectly tailored workouts for wherever you're training.

Ready to jump in? Let's get you set up!

Create a gym profile

  • Tap the gym name in the upper left corner of the Train tab.

  • Tap "Add gym profile" at the bottom of the sidebar.

  • Select between Large, Small and Garage Gym - if you choose Large or Small Gym, you'll land on the "Where do you exercise?" screen. Gravl works out your rough area on its own, so gyms near you come up first once you start typing, and it never asks for permission to use your device's location.

  • Here are two options for how to continue:

  1. Search for your gym and pick it from the list. On a regular gym you get a preview with the name, address and map, then tap "Select" to continue. On a verified gym Gravl opens the gym's own page instead: tap "Join" there and the profile is created right away, with that gym's equipment already set up.
  2. Tap "Skip" and enter the desired gym name.
  • Tap "Create".

Gravl Tip:

If you chose option 2, you can still search for your gym after tapping "Create". On the next screen, just tap "Add" and select a gym from the list.

Edit available equipment

Now that you've created a gym profile, you can assign a color to it. Most importantly: Tell us what equipment is available so our AI can work its magic and create workouts that consist only of exercises you can do. Here's how:

  • Tap "Equipments".
  • Select the available equipment by checking or unchecking the boxes.
  • Edit the units, increments, available plates, bars, dumbbells, etc.
  • Add custom weights for dumbbells and kettlebells if neccessary.
  • Missing a machine entirely? Tap "Add" on the Equipment screen to build your own: give it a name, a category and its weights. You can also tap "Import from photo" and let Gravl read the weight stack off a picture.

The unit is set per piece of equipment, bars and plates included. Open the equipment, flip the Unit tabs at the top between kg and lb, then tap "Save". Anything you leave alone falls back to the gym's own Weight unit, and only then to the unit in your profile settings.

Training abroad or in a gym where the machines are marked differently? When editing a gym profile, you can also set a Weight unit just for that gym - the unit the machines there are marked in. No more mental math between kg and lbs mid-set.

Gravl Tip:

Switching between units is also available on the fly. Take a look at the exercise screen.

Verified gyms

Some gyms in our database are verified: they come with photos, a map, and their equipment already set up for you. If you select a verified gym, you can skip the equipment setup entirely - we already know what's on the gym floor. Because the equipment list is managed by Gravl, it can't be edited manually on verified gyms.

Records and stats, per gym

Weights can feel different from one gym to another - a machine at your home gym won't load exactly like the one at the hotel gym. That's why Gravl keeps track of your lifts per gym:

  • In an exercise's Analytics, use the gym selector at the top to switch between your gyms and see the numbers you've put up at each one. It only shows up on machine exercises: weight machines, cable machines and plated machines. On free weights, 100 kg on a barbell is 100 kg anywhere, so there is nothing to switch between.
  • On a machine exercise's One Rep Max screen, you can tap the value to set a 1RM override that applies only to the gym you're currently in. Perfect for that one cable machine that feels suspiciously heavy. Free weights work differently: 100 kg on a barbell is 100 kg anywhere, so those exercises keep a single one rep max across all your gyms and show no gym selector.

Switch between different profiles

Need more profiles for different gyms or setups? Just repeat the steps above. Switching between them is a breeze:

  • Tap the gym name in the upper left corner of the Train tab.
  • Select the profile you want to use.

One catch: you can't switch while a workout is running. Gravl shows a Workout in progress alert instead. Finish or discard the workout first.

Gravl Tip:

If you want to edit the equipment or the name of a profile later, just open the sidebar, tap the three dots next to the profile you want to edit and select "Edit". On a verified gym that option reads "View" instead and opens the gym's page, since Gravl keeps that equipment list up to date for you.
