Scan the code

Tap the add button and choose Scan. Point the camera at the product's barcode — standard retail codes (EAN and UPC) are recognized automatically, and there's a flashlight button for dark kitchens.

Barcode lookup needs an internet connection: the code is matched against the catalog and, when it's a product we haven't seen before, against a public product database, so coverage keeps growing.

Log the product

A match opens the food's detail with its label data. Pick how much you had — servings, grams, or another unit — then log it directly or add it to the plate alongside other foods.

If the numbers don't match the label in your hand (recipes change, labels get updated), choose Edit values to make your own corrected copy. Your copy is what you'll log from then on; it never modifies the shared catalog entry.

If the code isn't found

You'll get the scanned code on screen and a few ways forward:

  • Scan the nutrition label — photograph the label itself and let the app read it;
  • Search instead — find the product by name;
  • Manual entry — type the food in yourself;
  • Scan again — barcodes on curved or shiny packaging sometimes take a second try.
