What it is
Polyunsaturated fat (PUFA) is the category your body genuinely requires from food — it can't synthesize these fats itself. It splits into two families: omega-6 (abundant in vegetable oils and nuts; scarcity is never the problem) and omega-3 (ALA from plants, EPA and DHA from fish — the family modern diets actually under-eat).
How much
No gram target to chase; the actionable habit is specific: regular fatty fish — salmon, sardines, mackerel, a couple of servings a week is the classic guidance — or a deliberate plant strategy (walnuts, chia, flax) if fish isn't on your menu. Omega-6 takes care of itself in any modern diet.
How well it's tracked
Partially, same caveat as monounsaturated fat: the breakdown is missing from many labels, so your PUFA line undercounts reality and works best as a relative signal. (The app doesn't split omega-3 from omega-6 — the fish habit is tracked by eating the fish, not by a number.)
Food sources
Fatty fish for the omega-3s that matter most; walnuts, flax and chia seeds; sunflower, soybean and other vegetable oils for the omega-6 side.
In the app
PUFA has its Insights card with per-day contributors. If you supplement fish oil, remember supplements with macros belong in the diary.
