Why photos
You see yourself every day, which is exactly why you can't see yourself change. Photos taken weeks apart make the change undeniable — often long before the scale agrees.
Taking them
The capture flow in Body Metrics guides you through three poses — front, side, and back — shooting new photos or picking them from your gallery. One photo per pose per day (retaking replaces that day's shot, with a warning first), and the library holds up to 200 photos — at the recommended cadence of about one session a month, that's years of history.
Consistency is what makes comparisons honest: same time of day, same spot and light, same distance, same poses. And the app's own advice is worth repeating — your comfort outranks any consistency rule; skip the photo on days it wouldn't feel good.
Per-pose visibility toggles control what the Body Metrics screen surfaces, so you can track a pose without being shown it daily.
Before and after
The before/after builder puts two photos of the same pose together — the tool for the "wait, that's me?" moment. Two viewing modes: Stacked, side by side, or Slider, where you drag a divider across the overlaid photos. Pick a light or dark background, and if you want to keep or send the result, the share button renders it into a single image for your phone's normal share sheet — sharing is always your act, never the app's.
Private, shared only with yourself
Progress photos are stored privately in your Gravl account: nothing about them is public, and the app never posts or shares them anywhere. They're visible in both Gravl apps — the same photos accompany your training in Gravl Workouts. Deleting a photo removes it from your gallery immediately, and its file is purged from storage shortly after.
