Sugars

Total sugars count the fruit and the soda alike — context is what separates them.

What it is

Total sugars covers every simple carbohydrate in your food — the sugars naturally present in fruit and dairy and anything added along the way. It's one number for chemically similar things arriving in very different packages.

How much

There's no requirement to meet: sugars are part of your carb budget, not a separate need. The number worth an actual limit is added sugar — an apple and a candy bar can carry similar sugar grams while being nothing alike in fiber, satiety, and everything that comes with them.

How well it's tracked

Well — sugars appear on virtually every label and are stored with every diary entry. Expect real numbers here, not gaps.

Reading your number

A high total driven by whole fruit and yogurt is a different story from the same total driven by drinks and desserts. That's exactly what top contributors untangles: open the sugar metric, pick a day, and see which foods are actually behind the line.

Food sources

Naturally: fruit, milk and yogurt, some vegetables. Added: sweetened drinks, desserts, breakfast cereals, sauces and dressings — the added-sugar article covers the usual suspects.

Sugar has its card in Insights with chart, history, and contributors, and you can set a ceiling of your own if it's a number you actively manage.
